Amplifying Stories of Agroecology Practices and Principles (ASAPP)

part of Agroecology

This initiative investigates how agroecological principles take shape on the ground, amplifying farmer voices while producing knowledge that informs more resilient and sustainable food systems.

Amplifying Stories of Agroecology Practices and Principles (ASAPP) is a SIANI initiative spotlighting practical application of the HLPE 13 Principles of Agroecology across different agricultural contexts worldwide. Agroecology is increasingly recognized as a key pathway to sustainable and resilient food systems. Yet practical examples of its successful implementation remain limited, leaving a gap in actionable guidance for farmers and decision-makers. Systematic assessments of on-the-ground practices against the 13 Principles of Agroecology are limited, despite their importance for shaping policies and guiding investment in agroecological transitions.

ASAPP addresses this gap by collaborating closely with farmers across continents to identify and document lighthouse case studies – farms where agroecological principles are effectively integrated in ways that reflect their unique contexts. The documented agroecological practices extend beyond the farm level to encompass broader landscape and food system dimensions, highlighting the interconnections between production, ecosystems, and communities. Through a survey based on the Agroecology Assessment Framework, the project systematically maps practices and captures farmers’ self-assessments of their degree of agroecological integration. This approach not only generates structured, comparable insights but also amplifies farmer voices, showcasing local innovations, adaptive strategies, and inspiring best practices.

Findings are shared through a growing repository of visually engaging leaflets and videos, which together form a rich documentation of the case studies for farmers, advisors, researchers, and policymakers. By presenting practical, contextually grounded examples in accessible formats, ASAPP bridges theory and practice, accelerates the wider adoption of agroecology, and supports resilient, sustainable, and socially inclusive food systems worldwide.
