Recognizing the need for specialized technical inputs, the Government of Somalia has requested support to strengthen institutional capacity, improve data analytics, and lay the foundations for a comprehensive air quality management plan.
The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Africa Centre will bring proven expertise in air quality research, data analytics, and institutional capacity building. The project will support Somalia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) in generating policy-relevant evidence, strengthening technical competencies within the Pollution Monitoring Unit, and establishing the analytical foundations required for effective air quality governance.
This support will accelerate Somalia’s ability to meet its commitments under NDC 3.0, improve multisectoral coordination on short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), and reinforce the enabling environment needed for long-term, data-driven air quality management across the country.
