Greenhouse gas emissions from flight-intensive organizations’ air travel are substantial. Even with an increasing willingness to change, especially from management, decisions on when, where and how to travel are often made at the individual employee level. At this level, there is often an incomplete awareness of the impacts of air travel, a perceived lack of alternative options, and a lack of support mechanisms to inform decisions on if and how to travel. Understanding individual travel behaviour and ensuring that interventions appropriately target the decision maker at the point of decision is essential to effectively minimize impacts from air travel. The tool allows individual travellers and organizations to track and visualize travel-related emissions to empower employees to design and plan their travel to reduce their own emissions.

We are focusing on measures that help to: (a) reduce the number of flights per employee; (b) promote a shift to less carbon-intensive travel modes; and (c) replace travel with digital alternatives. Overall, the project aims to give flight-intensive organizations greater opportunities to reduce air travel-related emissions, thereby contributing to a low carbon and sustainable future.
