Shimin Huang
Shimin Huang is an Expert in the Sustainable Cities and Resilient Communities Unit at SEI Tallinn Centre since September 2023. Her research interests focus on high-quality living environments, sustainable urban and rural development, and spatial planning within the context of the green transition.
Shimin is a dedicated urbanist committed to fostering sustainable societal change through innovative, inclusive, and cost-effective urban solutions.
Before joining SEI Tallinn, Shimin gained valuable experience as an urban planner and designer in China and Germany. In addition, she has worked as a visiting lecturer within the Landscape Architecture Department at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, where she contributed to courses such as Strategic Local Planning, Urban Landscape Design, Outdoor Recreation Planning, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Landscape Character Assessment. Furthermore, she also had a teaching role in the integrated urban development and design study programme. She served as a Research Associate within the Architecture Management Department at Bauhaus University Weimar, where she was involved in teaching courses such as Real Estate Development, Urban Development Project focusing on Resilience, Reuse and Revitalisation.
Shimin holds a Master of Science (MSc) in European Urban Studies from Bauhaus University Weimar (Germany) and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from Guangzhou University (China).
She is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese and English, with a C1 proficiency in German and a B1 level in Estonian.
