Mónica Trujillo is a Research Fellow at SEI Latin America, where she contributes to the Sustainable Transitions line of research. Her work focuses on advancing the circular bioeconomy in Latin America, with a particular emphasis on bio-based value webs and value chains, innovative business models, and sustainable entrepreneurship involving micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Mónica leads and implements applied research projects and has been actively involved in policy dialogues to co-develop bioeconomy roadmaps at both national and sub-national levels. She has also been involved in fostering regional collaborations through initiatives such as the Latin American Bioeconomy Network. Her professional trajectory is grounded in designing and implementing sustainable development strategies that promote green economic growth, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive value chain management. She has worked in agribusiness, supporting smallholders and enterprises in Colombia and Argentina to develop market intelligence, prepare business plans, and align with relevant public policy frameworks.
Mónica also has significant experience in nature-based solutions aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity within protected areas and strategic ecosystems. Her work has contributed to strengthening governance at local, regional, and national levels, while also supporting the articulation of multi-sectoral public policies, the promotion of green businesses, and the transition to more sustainable food systems in countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
She holds a degree in Economics, a Master’s in Agribusiness and Food, and a postgraduate degree in International Cooperation and Project Management. Mónica joined SEI in August 2020.
